Comments
The heavy mineral content is generally <3% with a high ilmenite, low rutile content. The chrome content of the ilmenite fraction is 
relatively low with a significant proportion present in sphene and chromite grains.
The sand masses vary from low areas with ridge and swale structures to large areas of high (<200m) wind blown dunes.
The Qld Government announced in 1997 that it intended to extend the Byfield National Park to encompass the whole Byfield sand mass 
and not approve the mining of mineral sands in the Byfield area. Successive Labor governments have supported this policy.
