Comments
Gold was first discovered in the Gilbert River in 1869 and the resultant rush led to the establishment of the township of Gilberton.
Alluvial mining took place extensively in the late 1800's and then again in the 1980's when extensive mechanical mining took place. 
Alluvial production from the area is known to be extensive but is unknown.
