Geology
Resources occur in the Rangal and Fort Cooper Coal Measures of
Late Permian age, contained in an asymmetric, south plunging
syncline. Dips are 8 to 10 degrees along the western limb of the
syncline and up to 35 degrees along the eastern limb. Four coal
seams are present: Elphinstone seam - 6.2m; Schammer seam -
2m; Hynds seam - 6m to 9m and; the high ash Fort Cooper seam -
23m. Only the Elphinstone and Hynds seams are of economic
interest.
